Korean BLs

When it comes to BLs, I am exceptionally late to the party. I'm only just starting my journey. However, what a start it has been.

My first BL was The Eighth Sense (Viki). I absolutely loved this beautiful love story.

Anchored by an incredibly impressive performance from Lim Ji Sub, this show has surprising depths – exploring mental health, trauma and guilt and portraying a world where healing, forgiveness and acceptance are possible.

Who could resist?

The Eighth Sense was a tough act to follow… luckily, I picked Let Free The Curse of Taekwondo (iQIYI). I inhaled this show. This is such a gorgeous drama - both simple and complex and full of all the elements I love.

Angst? Check. Chemistry? Check. Intense love? Check. Poignancy? Check. Yearning? Check.

Both lead performances are gorgeous making you want to both binge and savour their story… sigh

I then watched and adored Sematic Error. I loved the story, the chemistry and how the characters evolved throughout the show.

I am often wary of the enemies to lovers trope… but it is handled so well here. Thanks to wonderful performances from both Park Seo Ham and Park Jae Chan, the show’s central relationship always makes sense and is incredibly endearing and beautiful.

After such a strong start, I am now choosing what BL to watch next… no pressure!
