Pursuit of Jade, Pursuit of Jade, Pursuit of Jade… yep, that’s been the main focus of my drama week. How about you? I am loving this cdrama, which had me hooked from episode one.
I think my favourite trope involves a smart, strong FL and a reserved, devoted ML (give me 10,000 eps of him staring at her, please and thank you). Plus, there is a hint of a found family gang too.
I cannot pretend to understand all that is going on right now but I’m just going with it on the warring factions front!
I adore Still Shining (Netflix). I love this show's quiet storytelling, which speaks both of love and hope and trauma and guilt. The drama features another gorgeous Park Jin Young performance after Our Unwritten Seoul. I cannot wait for more.
Boyfriend On Demand (Netflix) was tropey, swoony fun (think Spike Jonze’s Her via Singles Inferno). Jisoo was endearing and ep4 was surprisingly moving. The second half was less interesting and, while he looked super handsome, Seo In Guk didn’t have nearly enough to do. Fun while it lasted but this drama won’t linger long for me.
This week, after watching three episodes, I decided to give The Practical Guide To Love (Viki) one more go. Something about this show was not working for me. The only thing saving this drama was Lee Ki Taek's charismatic performance as Shin ji Soo. I then watched ep four and actually had a lot more fun. I am still on board for now.
In Your Radiant Season (Disney) is moving slowly, but I am invested in the characters, enjoying the atmosphere and appreciating this drama's ability to surprise.
I finished The Best Thing (iQIYI) this week and I will really miss this drama. I loved it from beginning to end. If you are in need of low angst love with a smart and interesting FL and a devoted, supportive ML green flag, this is your show. Plus, I very much enjoyed learning about Chinese Traditional Medicine.
Even If This Love Disappears Tonight (Netflix) tells the endearing love story between Han Seo Yoon (Shin Si Ah), a high school student who suffers from anterograde amnesia (a condition that prevents her from making new memories), and Kim Jae Won (Choo Young Woo), a boy who just wants to make every day special. Sigh.
I really enjoyed this film until the last act, which features a pretty unforgiveable curve ball that I (somehow) didn’t see coming. Not a fan of the ending, but what came before was super cute.
I am almost at the end of Stranger (Netflix) and am very much enjoying its twists and turns. Ever a character over plot girl, I am loving the (so far platonic) chemistry between Cho Seung Woo and Bae Doona’s characters. Meanwhile, this show features another brilliant performance from Shin Hye Sun.
Finally, I embarked on another accidental watch this week. I had heard talk about Affinity (Viki) and decided to give it a try. Someone tell me, what am I watching? This is a hilarious fever dream of a show. I love it even though I know I really shouldn’t.
