Dear Hongrang

Featuring an impressive cast, stunning cinematography and chemistry for days, Dear Hongrang is a Joseon era romantic drama with thrilling action and surprisingly dark and disturbing themes.

When the son of a wealthy and influential merchant family returns after being missing for 12 years, his sister Jae Yi (a wonderful Cho Bo Ah) is suspicious. Is he Hongrang or is he an imposter?

Her confusion only grows when his behaviour sends, shall we say, mixed signals? (Also, he looks like Lee Jae Wook, give the girl a break.) Meanwhile. her adopted brother, Mu Jin (Jung Ga Ram), has his own concerns… not least because his feelings for Jae Yi are also not of the sibling variety.

Yes, Dear Hongrang flirts with incest… but, thankfully, not for very long.

This is a drama about power struggles, slicing people up with swords (with little injury detail) and revenge.

However, at its heart (and what truly hooked me into the show), Dear Hongrang is a moving story about the redemptive power of an epic love.
