Signal

Signal (Netflix) has been on my watchlist since forever and it certainly did not disappoint.

This 16 episode drama has quite the pedigree.

It was written by Kim Eun Hee (Kingdom, Revenant), directed by Kim Won Suk (My Mister, When Life Gives You Tangerines) and stars Kim Hye Soo (my standout), Lee Je Hoon and Jo Jin Woong (alongside an impressive supporting cast).

It is difficult to talk about this show without getting into spoilers but I think it is safe to describe Signal as a thriller / dual timeline police procedural that examines the impact of guilt and trauma, power and corruption.

The drama is exceptionally constructed thanks to its superb script and direction. There is absolutely no padding in sight – every episode drives the story forward in new and often unexpected ways. Meanwhile, the performances are all top level.

Signal was a thrilling journey and one that I would highly recommend.
