Twelve Letters is a compelling and heartbreaking cdrama starring Zhou Yi Ran (When I Fly Towards You) and Wang Ying Lu (When Destiny Brings the Demon).
We follow our ML and FL as they struggle to live when the odds are stacked against them (many scenes are very tough to watch – trigger warning for violence / domestic violence) and wonder if a mysterious post box could, perhaps, save the day.
From her first scene, Wang Ying Lu gives a powerful, vulnerable performance in Twelve Letters. She was my standout. The second part of the drama offered Zhou Yi Ran more of a chance to shine, and he was also extremely impressive. Seriously, these two characters had my whole heart.
The story is brilliantly constructed – particularly in the first half of the show. I truly did not know what was going to happen next. The final act, while highly emotional, felt slightly less satisfactory with a conclusion that (in my opinion) could have benefited from a montage or a couple of extra scenes.
However, this is a minor quibble at the end of a powerful drama that I loved and will stay with me for a long time.
