Twelve Letters is a compelling and heartbreaking cdrama starring Zhou Yi Ran (When I Fly Towards You) and Wang Ying Lu (When Destiny Brings the Demon). We follow our ML and FL as they struggle to live when the odds are stacked against them (many scenes are very tough to watch – trigger warning for violence / domestic violence) and wonder if a mysterious post box could, perhaps, save the day. From her first scene, Wang Ying Lu gives a powerful, vulnerable performance in Twelve Letters. She was...

I started Speed and Love (Viki) for He Yu and I stayed for He Yu. This is one of those dramas where you objectively understand that the writing and plot are not all that great, but find yourself pretty addicted at the same time. Speed and Love features another of He Yu’s “sort of but, phew, not really” onscreen sisters (I prefer My Fated Boy). If you are worried, there is no incest (or incest adjacent element) involved. Speed and Love is really a childhood connection to lovers story. He...

Love Between Lines: 10 out of 10. No notes. I loved every minute of this 28 episode cdrama about VR murder mystery games, architecture and love (Viki). This show had something special… or, thinking about it, a lot of somethings. For a start, Love Between Lines was brilliantly directed by Mao De Shu who also directed another very special cdrama, When I Fly To You. The drama's story was structured really well. I didn’t feel the need to skip ahead at any stage (unlike my experience with Shine...

I ended up feeling rather mixed on Ms Incognito (Viki). I was gripped at the start, lost interest in the middle and enjoyed the drama’s conclusion. Jeon Yeo Been is incredible throughout, however. The show’s first two episodes were so good… I was super intrigued. I loved Jeon Yeo Been’s portrayal of bodyguard, Kim Young Ran, and rooted for her immediately. I also appreciated Jang Yoon Ju’s delicious villain, Ga Sun Young. However, when the drama moved to its village location (for...

Love, Take Two (Viki) is a slow burn slice of life drama that explores love in all its many complicated forms – familial love, romantic love, love between friends and the love within communities – and reminds us to treasure each and every “ordinary” day. Directed by Hometown Cha Cha Cha’s Yoo Je Won, the show’s brilliant ensemble cast portrays life’s humour and heartbreak beautifully. A drama to savour…

If you are looking for a visually stunning cdrama with a strong female protagonist, an inspiring gender message, a beautiful romance and a gripping revenge/redemption narrative, look no further than The Legend of the Female General (Viki). Based on the novel, Rebirth of a Star General, by Qian Shan Cha Ke (whose work has proven to be fertile ground for adaptations) and directed by Jeffrey Chiang, LOTFG is 36 episodes long and never outstays its welcome. The drama is an engaging example of the...

The First Night With The Duke (Viki) was a weekly gift of fun and swoony, swoony romance. At least for its first half. Like with Extraordinary You, the romance novel / transmigration setting gave the drama the ability to lean into the tropes we love and also subvert them. I always appreciate a strong FL and an unwavering ML and Ok Taec Yeon and Seo Ju Hyeon delivered this dynamic with fabulous chemistry. The show truly came alive whenever the Duke appeared thanks to Ok Taec Yeon’s hugely...

Full disclosure, I started watching Are You The One (Viki) while waiting for the next episode of The Prisoner of Beauty to drop. Little did I know that I would become just as obsessed with this show. Warning: this is one of those dramas where you can easily move from episode to episode before realising that, yes, you need to eat and, yes, you do also need sleep. Or do you??? Seriously, Are You The One took me on such a wonderful journey… full of intrigue, action, mystery and romance. The...

The Eighth Sense (Viki) was my first BL and what a way to start! I absolutely loved this beautiful love story (talk about chemistry for days!) and could easily have watched hours more. Anchored by an incredibly impressive performance from Lim Ji Sub, this show has surprising depths – exploring mental health, trauma and guilt and portraying a world where healing, forgiveness and acceptance are possible. Who could resist?

I think I experienced all the emotions while watching Moon Lovers. From joy and excitement, through angst and heartbreak to exasperation and disappointment. Did I enjoy it? Yes. Do I think that is has flaws. Also yes. Overall, I am glad that I watched this show and there is a lot to like (the cast and the costume design particularly). However, there is one reason why I kept coming back episode after episode and that reason is Wang So. Lee Joon Gi’s iconic performance took Moon Lovers to...
