Chinese dramas are being released thick and fast and I want to watch them all. It’s a problem – particularly as my watchlist is also significant. What's a girl to do?
The First Jasmine (Viki) started this week and I am all in. To be honest, I was all in the moment I realised this cdrama featured Cheng Lei… but having watched six episodes I am now all, all in.
I love a power couple and a tale of revenge. Meanwhile, both Bai Lu and Cheng Lei’s characters have intriguing backstories.
I continue to adore Dazzling (Viki). I have seen some criticisms of this show and it is certainly not without flaws… but, for me, this slice of life / youth cdrama is an endearing comfort watch.
I am also loving My Royal Nemesis. There was a moment in a recent episode where I braced myself for some noble idiocy. However, the show then went another way and, phew, I felt so relieved. This kdrama continues to surprise me in the best way.
I started two throwback kdramas this week. I am enjoying Reply 1997 (Viki) for all its heart warming friendships and chaotic energy (plus Seo In Guk).
I also started King The Eternal Monarch (Netflix). It is early days, but I am liking this show so far. It is beautiful to look at and I always appreciate a privileged, over celebrated Lee Min Ho character who is shocked by a disinterested FL (in this case the brilliant Kim Go Eun). My stand out so far is Woo Do Hwan.
I finished Duang with You (iQIYI) and really enjoyed this Thai bl. While perhaps a little overlong, the show is very, very cute. This is something to watch if you want a low angst ray of sunshine in drama form.
In stark contrast I am still watching Double Helix (Viki) but I cannot report that I am enjoying this bl. We have firmly entered toxic territory and, while I don’t need my lead characters to be a sea of green flags, this red flag just isn’t working for me. I will finish this show to see if there is the possibility of redemption, but I am not optimistic.
